After leaving Minnesota, we headed west. There were a couple of places on the list to see before we crossed the border into Canada, Theodore Roosevelt National Park (TRNP) and Glacier National Park. Because they were of course, kind of sort of on the way to Alaska. Which meant we were taking the scenic route.
First up was TRNP – after all, the views are amazing, and they still have wild horses. TRNP is part of the Badlands Range and just about anywhere we go, the views are just amazing. And to see horses in the wild and free, there’s a stirring in the soul when coming across these beautiful creatures. They have a history and a lineage that goes back hundreds of years. In addition to the horses, there was plenty of other wildlife that came our way. Buffalo with new calves, wild turkeys strutting their stuff and showing off for the ladies. It was Spring after all and the park was coming alive with wildlife.
We had a few good mornings in the park. One morning as we were driving through the park, it started with me telling Lari to back up! There’s a turkey in full bloom (yes, that is the new technical term). I grabbed the camera, got out of the jeep and spent about 20 minutes watching a Tom Turkey strut his stuff in front of a couple of ladies. From there, we saw the typical buffalo, including a new calf, prairie dogs and finally the horses!
