A Night at Dugway Recreation Campground
After starting the morning with a hearty breakfast of fresh trout and crispy hash browns, it was time to pack up and continue the journey through the scenic Black Hills. Our route stretched into Wyoming, where the day’s destination awaited: the Dugway Recreation Campground, just outside Rawlins, WY.
This campground came with a unique twist—it was completely free, a true bonus for road trippers like us. But there was a catch: only five sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Without a backup plan, we rolled the dice, hoping for a spot. Luck was on our side when we pulled in to find two open sites waiting for us.
We chose a site that felt like the perfect escape—spacious, private, and nestled next to the Platte River. Surrounded by rolling hills and an expansive sky, it felt like our own secluded slice of paradise. The distance between sites meant we hardly noticed neighbors, making it easy to relax and fully absorb the peaceful atmosphere.
This location also marked a special milestone for us: our first attempt at recording video on this journey. Armed with a new GoPro, we captured the sights and sounds of the area, testing the waters for more content to come. With the river gently flowing beside us and nature painting vivid scenes all around, there couldn’t have been a better place for a trial run.
Dugway Recreation Campground turned out to be more than just a rest stop; it was a reminder of the simple joys that come from embracing the unexpected and finding beauty in remote places.
